The Iowa Veterans Home (IVH) will honor veterans at its annual Veterans Day Program on Wednesday, November 11th at 10:30 a.m. in the Malloy LRC. IVH Adjutant Stan Freeborn will serve as Master of Ceremonies with remarks from Commandant John Mathes. The Marshalltown Municipal Band will provide special music during the prelude and the IVH Choir will perform during the program. Boy Scouts of America Troop 317 will participate in the program by advancing the colors.
The keynote address will be given by Col. Steven Altman, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iowa Army National Guard. Col. Altman enlisted into the Iowa Army National Guard and has served for more than 30 years. He was commissioned in 1983 through the Creighton University ROTC program and graduated with a BS in Finance. He also has an MBA from Drake University. He has been full-time with the Iowa Army National Guard since 1986 serving as Auditor, Comptroller, Deputy Chief of Staff for Information Management, Deputy United States Property and Fiscal Officer, and most recently the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel. He commanded the HHC/2-133, 185th Rear Operations Command, 554 Quartermaster Bn, 734th Regional Support Group and most recently the Regional Corps Advisory Command - East in Afghanistan. He is responsible for all aspects of personnel readiness to include promotions, DA Boards, medical, retirements, family readiness, funeral honors, tuition assistance, and the Yellow Ribbon Programs for soldiers returning from deployment. He is married to Jidjii Altman and they have two children 2LT Amanda Altman (USAF) and Andrew Altman.
